While the Corner Room has been occupied by different Barr-Smith family members over several generations, it has consistently housed a collection of memorabilia from overseas travel. The family business (Elders) had an office in London, UK which served as a base for old-world travel, mostly by ship and yacht, to global destinations. The Corner Room reflects these adventures and features family artifacts of travel across several continents, including Africa.

One of the family bedrooms of the Homestead, the Corner Room was usually reserved for the adventurous souls in the family. Located on the outside corner of the Homestead with an private entrance, the room is perfect for sneaking in or out without disturbing the rest of the of Homestead. To capture this free-spirited essence, the room is full of furniture and decor inspired by international travel.

To reflect the Australian heritage of the Homestead, we did our best to source Australian made and manufactured, or even recycled materials and hardwares when renovating each room. For example, taps in the bathroom are made and manufactured in Australia by Broadware and resemble the original vintage taps. Furthermore, the floors have been restored with floorboards made of recycled Tasmanian oak from the 1950s.
